What is Play It Cool™ (PIC)?
Play It Cool™ is a unique intervention program aimed at reducing injuries in minor hockey.
Our goal is to lower the risk of concussions and spinal cord injuries on the ice by teaching kids how to play safe, to play better, to Play It Cool.
What level of hockey is PIC involved in?
The program has developed an evaluation program to assist coaches in teaching safer hockey behaviours to players at the minor level.
How is PIC built on research?
Over the past four years our researchers from Lakehead University, along with several universities across Canada, have been charged with the responsibility to develop and evaluate a program to assist coaches in teaching safer hockey behaviours to players at the minor level.
•The researchers approached the development of the Play It Cool™ project using a stage-gate model, which is a technique in which a development process is divided into stages separated by gates. This model consists of three major stages:
•The development of a program of safe hockey preparation,
•The delivery of the program, and
•The assessment of the methods of implementation and perceived effectiveness of the program.
How do I get an Envoy Ambassador to visit my arena/team?
Please contact Wayne Archibald at warchibald@shooforacure.org to arrange any Envoy meetings or questions.
How can I participate and donate to the PIC Program?
You can donate directly online at www.shootforacure.org. Renee Weekes is our Public Relations & Communications Manager at PIC and she will be happy to discuss participation with you. You can email Renee directly at rweekes@shootforacure.org or call 905-508-4000 ext.232.
Are there any fundraising opportunities for my hockey team to support the PIC Program?
Jersey Raffle Program – We provide your organization/team with a fundraising kit that includes:
•One Autographed Replica NHL Player Jersey
•A Certificate of Authenticity for the jersey
•1,000 generic Raffle Tickets
The goal is to sell the 1,000 tickets for $5.00 each and potentially raise $5,000.00. Once you have drawn the winning raffle ticket, you are required to send back $1,000.00 to Play It Cool™. This in turn has the potential to raise your organization/team $4,000.00. This fundraiser can be held at anytime of the year.
As a coach, how do I participate in the online learning modules? Is there a fee to participate?
The online learning modules are currently in the field testing stage. Check back soon to find out more details about the PIC online learning module program for coaches. |
