Each month we’ll introduce you to a new Play It Cool™ Hero.

This month’s Play It Cool™ HERO is Alexandre Poce, General Director of the Spinal Cord Research Foundation.

Alexandre Poce was raised in Blainville, Quebec. On March 14th, 1987, at age 16, Alexandre’s life took a dramatic turn during a hockey game when he fell headfirst into the boards, breaking his neck and damaging his spinal cord. After a difficult year following his accident, he transitioned from rehabilitation back into the community, accepting his new life as a tetraplegic, with movement restricted to his head and shoulders.

Despite his physical limitations, he had the courage to complete his studies and received a bachelor degree in law at the Université du Québec à Montréal. After passing the Bar exams, he was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1998.

Today, he is the General Director of the Spinal Cord Research Foundation, where he is responsible for raising money to fund research to find a cure for paralysis, and giving people with spinal cord injuries the chance to one day walk again.
